Dr. Jennifer Bailey Bisson and her research team invite you to take part in a research study. The purpose of this research is to find lifestyle differences related childhood functioning and adaptation.

Your part in the study will be to respond truthfully to a short questionnaire about your child.

It will take you about 15-20 minutes to participate in this study.

Risks and Discomforts

If you do not choose to provide your email address at the end of the survey, there are no known risks associated with participation in the study.  Your participation is kept confidential.

If you choose to provide your e-mail address at the end of the survey, there is the possibility for loss of this confidential information. We have minimized this risk by separating email addresses from the remaining data and storing all contact information on secured servers. Although every reasonable effort has been taken, confidentiality during actual Internet communication procedures cannot be guaranteed.

Possible Benefits

We do not know of any way you would benefit directly from taking part in this study. However, this research may help us to understand the relationship between lifestyle differences and childhood adaptation and functioning.

Incentives

Each participant who completes the survey and correctly responds to more than half of the validation questions will receive a $20 Amazon gift card for completing the questionnaire. There are several validation questions embedded in this survey to ensure you are, in fact, legitimately completing the survey as a research participant. If you do not answer more than half of the validation questions correctly, you will not be awarded a $20 Amazon gift card.

Protection of Privacy and Confidentiality
Only the primary investigator, Jennifer Bisson, Ph.D., and members of the research team will have access to the survey responses. Your contact information will be separate from your other responses and kept in a password-protected database under lock and key. Your responses on the survey will never be connected at any point in time with your contact information.  We will do everything we can to protect your privacy and confidentiality. We will not disclose any personal information outside of the research team.

We might be required to share the information we collect from you with the Clemson University Office of Research Compliance and the Federal Office for Human Research Protections. If this happens, the information would only be used to find out if we ran this study properly and protected your rights as participants.

Choosing to Be in the Study

You do not have to be in this study. You may choose not to take part and you may choose to discontinue participation at any time. You will not be punished in any way if you decide not to be in the study or to stop taking part in the study.

If you choose to stop taking part in this study, the information you have already provided will be used in a confidential manner.
