An event every week that begins at 1:00pm on Monday, repeating until June 17, 2019
Class description: This 6 week class is an introduction to American Sign Language, the language used by Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing people in the United States and most of Canada. This course will also provide introductory information on Deaf culture, since a language cannot be separated from its culture.
Class objectives: The objectives of this course are to provide participants with beginning ASL communication skills (including the alphabet, numbers, colors, fingerspelling, vocabulary and basic conversation). By the end of the 6 weeks participants will have developed the practical skills and knowledge necessary for basic interactions within the Deaf community.
**Since learning a new language requires using that language, Use of Spoken Language is LIMITED in class! You may mime/gesture or write your questions to me, come see me before or after class, or e-mail your questions to me.
ONLY 15 slots available!!
This 6-week workshop will run every Monday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
ONLY $5 per registrant.
Tips for success:
To succeed in this class, we must work as a team and share responsibility for your learning.
If you are not following what is going on in class, raise your hand to ask for clarification. Don’t be shy to ask for help before we get too far ahead.
If you don’t remember how to produce a sign, use the resources provided or contact me directly. I will always have a review session at the start of each class.
Since spoken language in class is limited, it is imperative you study to retain information.
