Families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders are invited to attend a free, sensory friendly event at UMMA on Sunday, July 9, 10am-12pm. This two-hour program will allow ASD families to enjoy art and hands-on activities in a welcoming, crowd-free and less sensory-stimulating environment. Gallery activities will encourage exploration and discovery. Children of all ages can make a contemporary sculpture, create a rubbing based on a Chinese monument, explore the elements of Japanese tea ceremony, play I Spy with a new installation, or puzzle over Picasso. Sketching and writing materials will be available for children who enjoy those activities.

The museum will also offer sunglasses, noise reducing earmuffs, and a quiet area with tactile toys for families who need to step away from the activities for a bit.

This event is recommended for ages 5-18, however all are welcome to participate.

For more information about this event, call 734-647-0522.
