Leading Sexuality Education Classes for people with I/DD
October 14 - October 16$25
Nationally recognized guest speaker, Katherine McLaughlin will lead a three day workshop for teams made up of parents, professionals and self-advocates from various areas of the state.
These teams will receive Katherine’s curriculum and three days of training in conjunction with advocates from Michigan, trained during the
Council’s 2018 Sexuality Education Summit.
This curriculum contains 22 lessons designed with, and for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in conjunction with national experts. It is designed for trainers to choose what topics will work in their settings.
Having people with disabilities as part of creating the curriculum produced a cognitively accessible resource with comprehensive healthy
sexuality content. Lessons on abuse prevention and healthy relationships are included.
This curriculum is designed to be team taught with individuals that have IDD, paired with parents, or professionals presenting the information.
