The annual Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) Conference is March 11-13, 2020 at the Devos Place in Grand Rapids, MI. It is one of the Midwest’s largest educational technology conferences with 5000+ educators from across Michigan, the region, and Canada. The first day offers in-depth, focused workshops with the following two days of conference featuring 300+ sessions. On Wednesday, Therese Willkomm will be faciliating a four-hour “Make and Take” workshop at the conference:
Therese Willkomm is the director of ATinNH, the New Hampshire state wide assistive technology program with the Institute on Disability, and is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Willkomm is known nationally and internationally as “The McGyver of AT” for her expertise in creating assistive technology on the fly, and an expert on “Awesome Apps and Adaptations” to support individuals with disabilities. She has presented in 46 states, seven foreign counties, and three U.S. Territories and authored 22 publications including her most recent book, Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes Book 2 – Ordinary Items, Extraordinary Solutions.
Dr. Wilkomm will be at the MACUL Conference on Wednesday, March 11th for a two-part workshop. Part 1 is scheduled from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Part 2 is scheduled from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Interested participants should register for both sessions. The cost is $158 for 2 sessions and $159 for 3 sessions, so attending a third session during the 9:30 am – 11:30 am time slot is only $1 extra. Creating Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes: A Make and Take Workshop
Make and take eight multi-use assistive technology solutions that can be used in 25 different ways to support students with disabilities. Each year hundreds of new tools, materials, and techniques are discovered for creating assistive technology solutions in minutes. Participants will use new specialty tapes, fasteners, and plastics to create multi-use, portable, collapsible, reusable, repositionable devices for reading, writing, communication, life skills, transition, art, music, and leisure and recreation for students who experience vision, hearing, communication, physical or intellectual impairments. In addition, participants will explore over 30 new ordinary items that can be transformed into hundreds of technology solutions for students with disabilities. There is a $35 materials fee in addition to the cost of the workshop.
