Michigan Kids with IEPs Count Day Rally

October 3, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Michigan children with disabilities need to count and count they will on MI’s official Fall Count Day, Oct 3, 2018 on the main steps of the MI Capitol at 12:30pm. 29-% of our students are dropping out of school; 2/3rd in the 8th grade are not proficient in reading on the M-STEP; only 20-%in the 4th grade were proficient on last year’s NAEP; and 63-% earned diplomas and too many with 3rd grade reading/math levels. The U.S. Dept of Ed, Office for Special Ed gave MI a “Needs Intervention” for 2018 and for the aforementioned reasons. There is NO transparency at the MDE. Final Reports no Complaints are a slap on the wrist to wayward school districts and little to no compensatory ed for our students. Too many children are still being secluded and restrained and the overall outcomes for 200,000 students w/IEPs are egregious. The stakes could not be higher with the November 6, 2018 elections looming. Come out on Oct 3rd between 12:30-2:30 pm to the MI Capitol and fight for our kids. They deserve no less and so much more!
