MSU Autism Sibling Study
An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until April 30, 2020
The Family Stress Lab at Michigan State University is still looking for families to participate in our Autism Sibling study!
1) Participation in this study involves:
— One 2.5-3 hour session at MSU; you will receive $25 for the session. We are located on Service Road with a private parking lot next to the building.
— Mother and teen daily completion of a few short questions (less than 10 min) at bedtime for 16 days. Mothers and teens will each be paid $3 for each of these daily diaries. Mothers and teens will also collect four saliva samples each day for two weekend days to help us learn about biological rhythms in families. Collection involves spitting in a tube and storing tubes in the freezer. Mothers and teens will each be paid another $5 per day for providing these samples. In total, that’s $141 for participating.
— A small subsample of families participating will then be contacted and asked to complete an online session involving two tasks completed during the visit to MSU, taking approximately 1 hour. These families will earn another $15.
Participation is voluntary. When your family arrives at our lab we will explain the details of the study, answer any questions you have, and ask both mothers and teenagers if you want to participate before we begin the study.
2) Participation in this study requires that families have:
— A child who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, Autism, Asperger Syndrome and PDD) **this child does NOT participate in the study, only the mother and teenager WITHOUT ASD participate**
–A teenager closest in age to their sibling with Autism between age 13 through 17 who has NOT been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
— Mothers have NOT been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
— Mothers and teenagers are able to read and speak in English
If your family meets these participation criteria, select a day/time you can come to MSU to participate in this study.
