U-M Research Symposium on Children and Adolescents

The inaugural University of Michigan Research Symposium on Children and Adolescents is a transdisciplinary conference involving units from across campus that will demonstrate the breadth and depth of research at the University related to children and adolescents (defined as prenatal to 22 years) and their families. Within this domain, the event will identify key research knowledge gaps and opportunities, foster research collaborations, and provide career development opportunities for early career researchers.

The symposium is open to University of Michigan faculty, staff, and early career researchers (e.g., students, post-doctoral fellows, etc.) who are interested in research related to children, adolescents and families. The event will include:

  • Opening remarks by Rebecca Cunningham, M.D., Interim Vice President for Research
  • Keynote address by Matthew Gillman, M.D., S.M., Director of the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program at the National Institutes of Health
  • Three sessions featuring presentations and panel discussions with internal speakers
  • Research awards
  • Poster presentations

Symposium objectives

  1. To demonstrate the breadth and depth of research at the University of Michigan related to children and adolescents (defined as prenatal to 22 years) and their families.
  2. To identify key knowledge gaps and opportunities in research related to children and adolescents (defined as prenatal to 22 years) and their families.
  3. To foster research collaborations related to children and adolescents (prenatal to 22 years) and their families.
  4. To provide a career development opportunity for early career researchers who are interested in research related to children and adolescents (prenatal to 22 years) and their families.

Target Audience
University of Michigan faculty, staff, and early career researchers (e.g., students, post-doctoral fellows, etc.) who are interested in research related to children, adolescents and families.

Abstract Submission
University of Michigan faculty, staff, and early career researchers (e.g., students, post-doctoral fellows, etc.) are welcome to submit research abstracts that are related to children, adolescents (prenatal to 22 years) and/or their families. The symposium committee is pleased to accept abstracts from any discipline that are relevant to this research focus. Abstracts will be limited to 300 words and are due by 11:59 p.m. on February 1, 2020.
