Welcome and thank you for taking the time to learn more about Beacon Specialized Living Services. Beacon Specialized Living Services offers behavioral healthcare through numerous adult foster care (AFC), residential care and short-term care programs throughout Michigan. The overall program goals for Beacon Specialized Living Services are to provide the opportunity for each consumer to move to the least restrictive environment possible by providing supervision, care, protection, and life-skills training while adhering to Joint Commission standards.
Beacon Specialized Living Services serves developmentally disabled, mentally ill, dementia, and autistic adults in a behavioral healthcare setting. Our assisted living programs offer Joint Commission-accredited short-term care and residential care in urban, rural and apartment settings. The goal of each of these programs is to help the residents gain the necessary life skills that will help them move forward and eventually achieve independent living.
This is a program designed to work with individuals who have been diagnosed with Autism. The foundation of this program is based on the concepts of Gentle Teaching, including the four pillars of companionship, which are feeling safe, loved, loving, and engaged. It also utilizes the four tools of caregiving: our presence, our hands, our words, and our eyes. By building on this foundation we are able to help individuals served to feel more a sense of community and belonging. Our staff undergoes training provided by The Center for Positive Living Supports in the Culture of Gentleness and we have certified mentors and trainers available. We utilize this program in several of our homes, namely Trolley Center.
