The Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) at MSU is seeking a Research Assistant to join their team. A Master’s in a social, behavioral, communication, public health, epidemiology, statistical, or other relevant discipline is required. This position is placed within the Biomedical Research Informatics Core (BRIC), a division of CTSI. This BRIC position will consult on aspects of research design and study logistics, develop project-specific data standards, advise on best practices for quality data collection, and provide leadership in developing data quality processes. The majority of this position will involve working as part of the team managing the established Data Coordinating Center for an ongoing multi-site study of the epidemiology of Autism Spectrum Disorders funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This grant has been at MSU since 2005. As part of this team, this position will review data and reports; provide leadership in the completion of study documentation; design and perform checks for data accuracy; conduct high level data management tasks, develop harmonization approaches for two waves of data collection already completed, and interact with study sites across the country providing support to the research network investigators. This position will require participation in regular conference calls with the research network and direct interaction with the CDC.

The candidate must have a Master’s degree in a social, behavioral, communication, public health, epidemiology, statistical, or other relevant discipline. A minimum of two years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive research experience with research methodology, study design, working with analytic data sets, and basic statistics. Proficiency in at least one statistical package such as SAS, Stata, SPSS, or R is needed. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to work independently, and be detail-orientated. Candidate should have a good understanding of data collection and practices of data management.
